The Elegant Enigma and Hauntings of Nobury Manor

Welcome to my website. It’s the home of the Elegant Enigma and Hauntings of Nobury Manor – a crafty, funny spooky story for adults. The novel is witty and warm-hearted, also sensual and insightful. In places it gets spine-tinglingly spooky. There will  be a sequel later this year, and at least another two books to after that.

If the enjoyable process of writing interests you, you will find out how I go about it on my blog.

You can download the first three chapters of the Elegant Enigma for free of you scroll  further down this page.

Overview of the Elegant Enigma

The Elegant Enigma is the story of the urbane master of a haunted manor and his efforts to seduce the lady artist renting his gatehouse for the summer.  She, however, is determined to resist him; to keep her paintbrush moving, and keep a grip on her hard-won equilibrium.

It’s a good plan, but a doomed one.

Ghosts (and other strange phenomena) have a way of getting noticed and getting in the way.

Characters.

The manor is set in Nobury village,  a quaintly rural semi-paradise, and home to lively and interesting characters, including:

A fiery craftswoman shoe-maker and her family, who live in the old forge at the back of the pub.

The tree-climbing biker barmaid and her herbalist gran in the woods.

The amiable cook  and her soon-to-be lover (the hunky plumber) next-door.

The trend-seeking vlogger and her adorable Bichon Frise,  over the way.

This is the first story in what will eventually be the Marvellous Nobury fables.

Hello there, I’m Miranda. I was born in what was said to be a haunted house in the leafy county of Surrey, England.  I spent my teenage years looking after an unofficial menagerie among the rolling meadows in Worcestershire. Most of the creatures in my charge were goats, but there were sheep, ducks, hens…

Later I studied Illustration, and after that Public Art. These days I write character-rich and original supernatural romantic comedy for adults.
